Keeping Linthwaite Tidy grew from a previously existing litter picking group in Linthwaite, and joined Pride in Linthwaite soon after its inception, becoming one of the first sub-groups.
The group has insurance through Natural Kirklees for approved activities, and access to equipment, storage and most importantly more volunteers!
The group has also grown in scope; moving from just litter picks, to anything that would tidy or improve the aesthetics of the local area, be it pruning, painting, graffiti removal, to reporting fly tipping, broken street lights, overgrown vegetation, etc. to the council.
We have regular organised tidy sessions and support members of the community to do their own tidy activities by loaning equipment.
To prevent or lessen future incidences, we are active in initiatives such as the new ‘tek yer litter ‘ome’ and ‘Pick up tha’ poo’ signs, and encouraging the local schools to become green flag Eco Schools through Keep Britain Tidy to spread the importance of looking after the environment.
We work closely with the community, taking suggestions of areas that need improvement and liaise with other subgroups where tidying would be beneficial, such as before and after the Leadboilers festival, or before an area is planted by the Linthwaite in Bloom team.
We were nominated and became a Keeping Britain Tidy Ambassador group in 2019.
We aim to be as eco-friendly as possible.
