Linthwaite in Bloom is a subgroup of Pride in Linthwaite, specialising in all things planting related. We are a creative bunch; we have plants and green fingers in common and work hard, with support of others outside the immediate group.
Over the years we have planted up 70+ planters (with that number increasing as we speak!) and have good support from residents, who help with watering to complement the work the group does. We also have 20 hanging baskets and several railing planters, in addition to 2 rockeries and a dozen or so bulb planted areas too.
We have been very fortunate with support from our local Morrisons store providing bedding plants. Kirklees Parks and Gardens have passed on surplus plants to us, as well as other similar groups.
It all started with a void near a bus stop that Kate saw as having potential. Just by using some old topsoil free off a facebook group and some surplus plants from her garden, she saw what an impact it was having on others who admired the work. What a journey it has been!
In 2019 George entered for an award with Britain in Bloom “It’s Your Neighbourhood” category and we received the “Thriving” level award, which is just below the highest level.
Our aim is to make Linthwaite and the surrounding areas look better by virtue of flowers and sustainable plants. We are proud of our work and love seeing how it makes a difference to the village.
